Environmental Surface Test Instructions

WARNING! For environmental testing only.  Do not apply the test to humans, animals, or food.

  1. WET SWAB: Break open the Solution Vial by snapping the scored mark at the neck. Drip two droplets of the solution onto the exposed tip of the cotton swab provided in the kit. (THE REMAINDER OF THE SOLUTION WILL BE USED LATER.  DO NOT DISCARD.)
  2. SWIPE & WAIT: Make three 1-inch swipes with the wet swab on any metal or glass surface. Use only one face of the swab to collect sample (DO NOT ROTATE THE SWAB DURING COLLECTION.)  WAIT FOR 60 SECONDS after swabbing. (NOT WAITING CAN RESULT IN AN INVALID TEST.)
  3. PRESS: Firmly press the swabbed face of the cotton tip onto the vertical green line in the RIGHT PAD for 10 seconds.
  4. WET CENTER PAD: Gently touch open end of Solution Vial to center pad.  Allow fluid to wick out of the vial by capillary action. (DO NOT SQUEEZE VIAL. INCREASING SOLUTION FLOW RATE MAY RESULT IN AN INVALID TEST.) The left Validation Control window should begin to turn a dark red-brown color after approximately 60 seconds.
  5. INTERPRET: Examine the color in the windows after three minutes and interpret the results.

INTERPRETATION OF TEST REULTS

Interpret the test results according to the following diagrams.  The test is valid only if the color of the LEFT Validation Control window is dark red-brown. If the LEFT Validation Control window is green, then the test is invalid; disregard results and repeat the test with external assistance.

If the test is valid and the RIGHT Result Window is green, SARS-CoV-2 was NOT detected. If the test is valid and the RIGHT Result Window is dark red-brown, SARS-CoV-2 was detected.

TAKE ACTION:

A Positive Result indicates detection of Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Recommended action is immediate cleaning of all surfaces, following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. You may also wish to encourage frequent occupants of the space (such as employees or residents) to obtain a personal test for COVID-19.

A Negative Result indicates non-detection of Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Recommended action is to follow usual routine cleaning cycle.

DISPOSAL:

If the result is positive, it is good practice to clean the surfaces of iCoviSpot test components similarly to the rest of the environment – following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines – before disposal.

If the result is negative, iCoviSpot test components can be disposed of without special treatment.
